Better Than I

Better Than I

Better than I

Philippians 2:3-8 ESV
3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

The past few months have been a learning experience since my birthday.Life hasn’t been a smooth ride either as I make a career while still being an entrepreneur as well as wanting to advance education wise. Now you know what has been keeping me away from blogging. The art am still struggling to learn is taking time off the schedule to have some quiet time with God for refreshing…anyone else with me?

The greatest lesson I have learnt is humility. And God has a sense of humour,He made sure to use the least expected experience to learn it! We think humility is when we say Glory to God when someone commends you for something. We might think it is staying in the shadows as we let others take glory or sharing success.Far from it! Humility is a way of life and you can’t do it without God helping you.

I’d define it this way:Accepting, respecting,co existing with people while learning from them regardless of their societal status. In the opening passage we are admonished to value others and their interests before ours can I at this juncture say that humility is love? The perfect example the Bible has used is Jesus who was God.He was all knowing, better than men and actually beginning and the end! Yet He didn’t consider that as something he’d use to get himself off that Cross to prove it.His whole life was a good example of humility in the way he treated people, can you imagine he had time to reach out to an adulterous woman and the famous Mary Magdalene…
Here’s how I’ve been learning. There’s this lady that goes home around the same time as I.By looking at her you can tell we aren’t in the same social status from the way she wears and talks. So the other day I decided to prod her alittle to hear her story(that’s indisciplined of me I know). She enlightened me on something I didn’t know. She told me of her work experiences in Uganda and I realised she would beat me in book keeping even if I have a degree in management! She knows Uganda inside out yet me Miss learned has never been to Kisumu. That’s experience one.

Experience two:I was walking home the other evening and guess who was my company,a drunk. Yes a drunk who was sober enough to give me a lesson on the impact of our parents words. He said to me,”Lady, when you’re out here in the world you carry only two people;your father or mother alive or dead…The things they taught you will sustain you to the very end.It is important that you listen carefully to what they say..Wambui,if you want a long life work with your hands don’t ever covet someone’s property. “He was done and walked to his house.

From the two case scenarios, one would actually despise the drunk citing alcohol’s ability to hamper straight thinking.Someone else can despise the lady looking at the way she’s dressed and her English. We also know other reasons that make us despise people and even give an attitude. They might not be as schooled, rich, trendy like us but they are human beings with a rich mind.

We have an example to follow set by Jesus. He proved that it is possible to walk in humility and still be great in your own right. We can also learn from Paul the apostle and his admonishment to the Philippi church.Humility doesn’t mean that you are lesser or you neglect yourself for other people’s sake no it actually means you know you’re good but it doesn’t make you greater.

Final point

I tell you that there’s no formula for learning to say they are Better than I.You can only do it with God’s help. You must be willing to say I can’t to Him in prayer. He says He opposes the proud but gives graces to the humble(See James 4:6).Humility isn’t a one off lesson but one you keep doing everyday.

I do hope we can learn this virtue that will open doors for us as well as make our lives better because our relationships with people will be ones of love and consideration.

Blessings to you,

Wambui Muriuki.

Beat Flu!

Beat Flu!

Nothing spoils your day or week than waking up to flu.Couple of weeks ago I could not speak thanks to flu and sore throat for a whole day.I went to hospital only to get medication that wasn’t helping until my friend gave me a simple recipe to try.It worked! And that’s why I want to share.

All the ingredients were in the kitchen and readily available.

You’ll need

  • Garlic

  • Lemon

  • Ginger

  • Honey

Preparation

  • Wash your lemon, ginger and garlic.
  • Peel the ginger and garlic and grate them.
  • Cut the lemon into small pieces/cubes.If the lemon is yellow the better.
  • Bring water to boil and add the ginger, lemon and garlic.Allow it boil five minutes. The water may turn milky because of the garlic but it is even better that way.
  • It is ready to take so sieve into a mug and add one or two teaspoonfuls of honey. (I can assure you it isn’t as sweet as juice).

You can take this as soon as you notice flu symptoms or when you fall ill.In 24 or less hours you’re good to go.

You will also notice that these ingredients have many more benefits and you can explore other ways of using them.I’d love to hear how you’ve used them.

Blessings to you,

Wambui Muriuki.

My Simple Tricks

My Simple Tricks

Being a girl requires that you hack some of these things and here are those that I apply….

1.Long eyelashes

Am not a great fan of mascara although I wear it once a while. When I am not wearing it I use my petroleum jelly(Vaseline) to make them pop.

2.Of thrifted trousers

Buying trousers on the streets can be a task and a half. It’s tricky when you are wearing one and you can’t try on and we know they don’t have changing rooms. So how do you know it’ll fit your waist?

I fold my wrist into a fist and fit the trouser on my hand with my fist all the way to the elbow. If it fits right then am good to go.

3.Removing make up

Don’t ever sleep in make up no matter how tired or lazy you feel.To remove my liners and lipstick I dab some little petroleum jelly on cotton wool and gently wipe it off.All of it!

Afterwards I apply some Shea butter on my lips and tuck in.(You’ll realise your lips will feel soft and hmmmmm)

4.Buying shoes

I buy my shoes in the afternoon or evening because my feet are abit swollen. That guarantees I buy a right size.I always try on the right foot because I believe it is the bigger one.

5.Soft hands and feet

Every girl loves being soft especially hands and feet that are usually forgotten. Before going to bed I use Raw Shea Butter on my hands and feet and it works miracles! I’d also recommended Olive Oil if you can’t get the butter

6.Hairline and eyebrows

Treating my hair chemically destroyed my hairline and bushy eyebrows don’t run in my family. A friend recommended dabbing some glycerine and castor oil on my hairline and covering my head with a satin scarf and my hairline is back.

Castor oil has given me something to call eyebrows.

7.Saving

I carry packed lunch to work which means I save some money everyday.

I only buy only what I need and do my shopping in bulk,I save money and time(this I learnt from my bff Wanjira).

I hope my simple tricks will be helpful,I’d like to hear your simple tricks too.

Blessings to you,

Watching: Grey’s Anatomy,White Collar,Covert Affairs and every other investigative I lay my hands on.

Exercise: Lord please help me here.

Appreciating: That this life rewards hardwork.People at their level of knowledge.Good manners and positive thinking.

Obsessing: On Ankara fabrics and designs.DIYs,Cars,Photography,All things natural hair and fashion!

Fearing: Electric faults. The pole next to our house misbehaved so am avoiding these electricity lines like plague.

Sewing: Skirts and dresses(Enrolled for a tailoring class). Some woolen fabrics with my mum.

Learning: To be content. To take one day at a time.To be comfortable with my body and skin.To be thankful at all times. To appreciate others and to be humble. To be open minded more.To state my case and stick there.

Crushing: On Hill Harper and Matt Bomer(He has blue eyes and the way he suits up…Damn!)

Happy new week! In the spirit of International Women’s Day tomorrow, today we’ll speak some beauty stuff(sorry men allow us just for today)
Every woman wants to have a glowing skin free of spots, uneven tone, pimples and dark circles and being one of them I took to the net to discover the secret to that skin afew months ago.I discovered honey,tumeric,raw/natural yoghurt, sandal wood, coconut oil and so many other ingredients. I chose what was easy and readily available to begin with.
Honey, tumeric and natural yoghurt. This beauty mask leaves my skin glowing for weeks so I don’t have to do it every week.Unfortunately when I added the natural yoghurt it was too long light.
You will need 1 tablespoon of honey and 1teaspoon of tumeric.

Exercise

Exercise

For the longest time ever I have dreamt of exercising to tone my body but it never seemed to actualize. So I kept on dreaming in 2015 including downloading the apps needed.I had to make it happen this year and I got an exercise partner! Double luck.

We all know how important exercise is to our bodies.A healthy life is a life of exercise. My exercise program began this week which coincides with my 30 days early rising program.Am starting with exercising my abs and aerobics.
Good news is that I don’t have to do this in a gym,I do it right in my house. All you need is the videos and the apps.

image

You will also need an exercise mat.If you’re wondering which apps am talking about,I recommend 7 minutes(for both men and women) and Brazillian Butt(girls you’ll love this). You can get them on Play Store for Android though am not sure with the iPhone.

image

Remember that exercise is good when done the right way.Warm up before commencing and drink water during rest times if you feel thirsty.Do it at your own pace and don’t strain much with time you’ll be as good as the trainers.

Let me go back to exercising now,see yah in the next post.Drop a comment and follow my blog. Happy exercising!

Blessings to you,

Wambui Muriuki.

The Acne Miracle

My face is the diva i am not…actually diva is an understatement she is a drama queen! It reacts on anything immediately and the last two months it broke out so badly. As usual i rushed for the exforliators, masks and scrubs but nothing worked until this week. After consulting a nurse she told me to try lemon and my oh my the miracle  had been longing for happened. The acne started clearing!

It was this simple

  • clean your face with warm water(helps to open the pores) and pat dry
  • cut the lemon and rub as you squeeze the juice on your face gently and then wait for it to dry
  • wash off with luke warm water and then splash on cold water(to close the pores) and pat dry.You are good to go!

Since my face is a combination type i used some petroleum jelly on my cheeks to avoid dryness. Our skin types vary so be patient with your skin it might take sometime but the change is gonna come.Go ahead and discover more beauty secrets of lemon and please remember to share

Beautiful wednesday

Wearing Your Perfume

Nobody doesn’t like to smell good but some times our perfumes do not last for long;we smell good in the morning but as soon as the sun sets in and we sweat the scent disappears. That shouldn’t be the case.

I have learnt that many people spray directly on their clothes and this is mistake number one.this is what you should do.

Apply your deodorant as usal and follow with your lotion.Instead of using the perfume on your cloths, spray directly on your body notably the neck, just below your armpits and any other parts.

You are now ready to have a masculine or feminine scent that lasts all day…doesn’t that sound good?Feel free to add a tip too

Good evening
